We started Salt & Timber because we knew renovations could feel better. After decades in shops, on job sites, and in design offices, founders Joel, Skyler, and Todd saw too many homeowners overwhelmed by process and underwhelmed by quality. So we combined our expertise to build a company that puts craftsmanship, clarity, and conservation first—for our families, our clients, and the forests we love.
At Salt & Timber, craftsmanship runs in our blood, but it’s family that drives everything we do. We’re builders, designers, and problem-solvers — but above all, we’re people who understand the meaning of home.
Meet the Team
Joel – Co-Founder & Build Design Lead
Joel’s journey into woodworking began before most kids had a toolbox — building projects alongside his dad as early as age nine. What started as curiosity quickly became mastery, and over the years, he developed a reputation for uncompromising attention to detail, especially in fine-finish carpentry. Today, Joel brings over two decades of hands-on experience to every project, ensuring each project is designed with care and precision. Outside of work, you’ll find him hiking mountain trails with his wife and golden retriever or casting a fly line in Utah’s backcountry — the same landscapes that inspire his respect for quality, longevity, and natural materials. For Joel, great craftsmanship isn’t just a skill — it’s a legacy he’s proud to pass on.
Skyler – Co-Founder & Visual Design Lead
Skyler bridges two worlds: the creative and the practical. With over 12 years of hands-on cabinet installation and a degree in graphic design, he’s uniquely equipped to turn your vision into a space that’s both beautiful and functional. He knows firsthand how a kitchen layout affects daily life — because he’s installed them, adjusted them, and lived with the results. As a father and a game-night strategist, Skyler believes design should be intuitive, personalized, and built to support the way real families live. He brings patience, empathy, and visual clarity to every design conversation, making sure clients feel supported from first sketch to final install.
